Suggestions and Tips

It is now Friday! The mundane repetitive motion of the 9-5 has come to end for this week. The weekend is upon us. It's time to start planning out all the possibilities the weekend holds. If you're one of those people who sit at home complaining there isn't anything to do in this town then you simply haven't been looking hard enough or haven't found a good place to fit in yet. Don't worry thats why we're here. Even if you aren't fond of planning anything out here are a few events to note and tips to keep you safe and in the zone.

We've talked about Stringfellow in previous articles and now we do it again because they're that good. Stringfellow will be hitting it hard at Freedom Fine Cigars from 7-10pm. Go get yourself a fine cigar and beverage then relax to the soothing sounds of Stringfellow. If you haven't already started following Freedom Fine Cigars you should. They've been having quite a few musicians come through for an intimate experience filled with the exquisite aroma of quality cigars with a comfortable, classy lounge atmosphere.

Did you know they have live music at the Blue Martini? They advertise it all the time. The biggest issue with that is you have no idea who is playing and what genre it's going to be.

Tip #1: If you want to save some money and time avoid places whose advertisements are vague. Know what you're getting into before hand. If you're the kind of person who likes surprises then by all means but I can almost guarantee it's going to be a top 40 cover band.

If you're looking for more of a DJ then head on over to Paddy Murphy's and be prepared to be entertained by DJ Sugarcube. Though I can't honestly say I have witnessed this show in person I have heard several grand things about it. Entertaining, positive and intelligent. Keep in mind this DJ encourages requests from the patrons. Create a playlist for the night and then head to Paddy Murphy's where you can customize your shindig. He'll be there both Friday and Saturday from 9pm-2am.

Tip#2: It's December and we live in Naples, FL which means all the streets and parking lots are more cramped then usual. Find some friends to hit the town with. Carpool if at all possible. You can even hit up Uber if you find yourself uber drunk.

If you're looking for a high energy show with more of a folk/bluegrass/pop feel you should head to Mereday's Brasserie for The Good Bad Kids. This 4 piece act has been spotted all over town and they deliver just as much energy everytime. Very talented group. If you actually pay attention they'll give you a lesson on music. They not only have originals but they also play covers by fairly popular mainstream folk acts as well as some underground. Be prepared to take notes!

Tip#3: Some places that have entertainment are in fact restaurants and expect people to buy food or drink if they have a bar there. If you find yourself heading to a place to see a specific act be sure to carry cash so you can get yourself an ice cold refreshment. This will deter the staff from looking at you like there is no reason for you to be there and may be friendlier than if you went there and didn't buy a thing.

Of course there's all kind of things going on this weekend and just I named a few. So here is where I leave it off with some words of wisdom. As my Platoon Sargent use to say every Friday for the safety briefing "Don't drink and drive. Don't drive and drink. Don't smoke any of that funny stuff. Don't start a fight but finish it. Use protection." Have a great weekend everybody!

Side Note: Gator Nate of the Gladezmen is everywhere and has the sexiest beard in town. If you happen to find this elusive beast be sure to take a picture with him and send it our way!
